Add a Stripe (Patchwork)
So often quilters avoid using striped fabrics and yet stripes can add a little zip and interest to a quilt. The linear nature of striped fabrics can add movement, reinforce a block or hide it, and sometimes even create a 3-D effect.
The morning of this one day workshop will be spent exploring the properties of stripes. Students will work on cut and paste exercises using the striped fabrics provided in the kit. In the afternoon, participants will choose a block, work with their own striped fabrics and begin designing a piece on the design wall. Students will create their own individual projects by exploring the qualities a stripe can add to a quilt.
Kit fee - $5.00

Postcard Landscapes (Applique)
Here's an opportunity to explore colour and fabric texture by creating small landscapes. Emphasis is placed on use of scale, overlapping, value and pattern texture to create depth within each piece. Participants will work in series by creating three or more small landscapes using a variety of techniques: fused applique, freezer paper machine applique, and up-side-down appliqué with satin stitch or raw edge stitched finishing.
Level: Novice/Intermediate
Up-side-down Applique (Applique)
Try a fun new appliqué technique as you create a simple landscape. Two versions of an original landscape design by Margie are available for you to use in this workshop. By the end of the day you will be well on the way to completing the appliqué on this 11” x 14” landscape.
The up-side-down appliqué method is versatile as well as easy. The resulting raw edges can be finished with either satin stitch or free motion stitching. Both methods of edge finishing will be demonstrated.
