The plans for our fall quilt show - Quilts on Stage - to be held October 4 at the Showcase Center are quickly falling into place! Many exciting details are being worked on to make this a successful show, such as a scavenger hunt, door prizes, refreshments (included in the $5 admission), vendor tables and quilting demos. Entry forms will be finalized and posted here, on the Facebook page and emailed to all members by the end of next week. Please take some time now to consider how you would like to be involved in the show. Consider submitting a quilt for display at the show as well as helping in any of a number of ways before, during and after the show: set up, admission table, door prize table, coffee, tea and cake service, demo table, general helping on the quilt show floor answering questions and talking to visitors, take down and clean up. Many helping hands will guarantee a successful show!
Your quilt show coordinators, Linda P., Joyce and Tanya, are excited to announce the Northern Piecemakers quilt show to be held October 4, 2014 at the Showcase Centre (old St. Joe's church) from 10am till 4pm. Entry forms should be available here, on Facebook and via email by mid July. We will be looking for lots of entries from our members as well as volunteers to ensure our show is a success! Stay tuned for more details!
There are five positions on the guild's executive that need to be filled for 2014-15. Following is a brief description for each position but please contact the guild if you would like to know more. We need somebody to do Publicity. This involves taking posters to nearby shops and contacting local radio and TV stations each month about our meetings. Much of this can be done using a computer. We also need somebody to be our Sunshine Committee. This person looks after sending cards to members in the event of illness, new grandbaby, death of a family member, etc. You are reimbursed for cards and postage. We need 2 people to take on the role of Meeting Night Coordinators. This job requires you to remind members who have volunteered to bring snacks to our meeting nights. The last position that needs to be filled is Welcoming Committee. This person passes out door prize tickets and manages the gift basket. Please consider taking on one of the positions on the guild's executive for 2014-15.
Janet P. has asked that this be posted on our website. It is from Quilter's Connection for Canadian Quilters.
A Quick Note From Us! Dear Janet, First of all, I want to start out by saying that I don't like being bombarded with emails from an organization once I've signed up for their newsletter - and I'm sure you are the same. That is why Quilter's Connection Magazine only sends out our e-newsletter once a month, and you don't receive other emails from us, unless it's related to your subscription. But every once in a while there is some information that we think is very important, or very interesting, and we want to share it with you right away, instead of waiting for our once-a-month e-newsletter. That is what this message is about today. Our good friend, Brandy Lynn Maslowski of Canadian Quilt Talk, is publishing a book, and she's asking for our help. She's running a Kickstarter campaign to help fundraise the money needed to publish the book. The project launches today, Valentine's Day, and lasts for one month, ending on March 15th. The campaign can be viewed by going to Kickstarter and searching forKristy's Quilt. The goal is to raise $10,000 in one month to publish the book and get it into the hands of children everywhere. AND REMEMBER - this book is not just for quilters. Any parent can appreciate the value of a cuddly quilt and a bedtime story, so let's help kids learn what goes into making a quilt. If you would like to learn more about Brandy and her book, please visit go to the Kickstarter website (www.kickstarter.com) and search forKristy's Quilt. Support a fellow quilter! And, please pass this message along to your friends too. Simply use the "Forward this Email" button at the bottom of this page to send this message to other quilters who may be interested in learning about Kristy's Quilt. Thank you, ~ Heather Quilter's Connection The instructions are now posted for the December mystery block of the month. Look under "Links".
This is a message from Carmen Brown to all members:
Hi, This is Carmen Brown, I was a member a while back, and I would like to welcome those that are interested to come to my "open house sewing room sale " I'm downsizing and selling/letting go of about 75%-80% of my hoard!! it's a lot, I mean it's really a lot of fabric! About 4 long tables worth and more in bins etc... Mostly quilting cottons, some sewing fabrics as well and extras and odds and ends too! Since I do live in the 2013 dream home, I'd be offering tea and cookies and chit chat as well that evening :) if you just want to come snoop you can come too (lol) as many I run into ask about the house and I'm glad to share it! ( there are pets at my house, dogs and cats for those with allergies I'm sorry, however, my sewing room has been off limits to my animals, no fur etc) I'm planning it for the 8th of March at 7 pm at 7718 Oxford Road, Carriage Lane north side. I will be trying to come to your meeting that Monday ahead, but I don't know due to work scheduling. Please spread this email for the members... I am pricing quite cheap as I have to let go! I hope to see many of you there...! There are two blocks posted for January. You can find them on the links page.
