During the January meeting we will be having a work bee. Our guild has provided 15 comfort quilts to community members during the last three months. Our supply of quilts has been exhausted and when a request comes in for a comfort quilt we are scrambling to complete one so that it can be delivered in a timely fashion. We have received a lot of positive feedback on our quilts - they warm the body and comfort the heart! Please come to the meeting in January and help build our supply of comfort quilts!

We will be meeting at the Grande Prairie Church of Christ (just off Resources Road, south of the bowling alley) beginning in January. The church is providing their meeting space to us for free, so over the course of a year we can save $1,000 and use this money to fund the many quilts we produce to provide comfort to others. Please remember to bring your indoor shoes.
Look under the Links page for instructions for the 9 patch and disappearing 9 patch block instructions.
The instructions for the November block of the mystery quilt are now posted.
Fabricland has their quilting cottons on for 50% off this weekend. Minimum 1 meter cut. Have fun! Go to the links page for the instructions for the October mystery block of the month. Happy quilting everyone!

Carol and Dawn have accepted the position of co-ordinators for the Festival of Trees quilt 2013. They require your assistance please. Following are the instructions Carol sent to me. Feel free to make as many of these blocks as you wish and bring them to the October meeting. We have been advised that this is the Festival of Trees 25th Anniversary so Dawn and I are willing to take on the job of getting a quilt made for it. We would appreciate your sending an e-mail to everyone. We would greatly appreciate any of the members who are willing to help - make a half square triangle block and bring it to the October meeting. We need 160 – 200 blocks. Please use tone-on-tone white (or as close as possible) and medium-dark blues - again tone on tone or as close as possible – no big or loud prints. Cut 5” squares of each color. Cut each square diagonally (corner to corner to form a triangle). Sew a blue and a white together to make a half square triangle block, press to the blue. DO NOT TRIM. Please bring them to our October meeting to be used in a quilt for the Festival of Trees. Thank you!! Carol Instructions for the September mystery blocks can be found under the Links tab.
I apologize to Linda and Helen for not posting instructions for the charity blocks sooner. I am having trouble with both my printer (so cannot scan at the moment) and my laptop (do not have a working Word program). Click here to see a video which shows how to make these blocks. If you are making the 4-patch block stop the video at the 3 minute mark. If you are making the disappearing 4-patch you will need to watch the entire video. 4-patch Start with 5 1/2" blocks for the 4-patch. Disappearing 4-patch Start with 6" squares. Cut 1 1/4" from the center line. Remember to use white or white on white and your co-ordinating fabric should be the same print suitable for toddlers or young children. Both blocks will be 10 1/2" unfinished! |
